Camera Obscura

In today's paper, there was a review of a brand-new sitcom on ABC called Miss Guided that describes the lead, an actress named Judy Greer, as "an Irene Dunne-ish blond." Wait, did I wake up this morning in 1947? I would gather that I have more awareness of these things than at least 95 percent of the Denver Post's readership, yet I have only a vague sense of who Irene Dunne is, and none at all of what she looks like.

Oh wait, there she is now.

Irene Dunne is "obscura" if you're 9.

I mean, granted, she's no Jim Carrey, but ... I'm just gonna let that rude comment land on "Jim Carrey."

Or if you're 19, or 29...

By that logic, we shouldn't have the vaguest idea who Thomas Jefferson was. (That's right. I just compared Irene Dunne to Thomas Jefferson.)

[Gasps] Gino Vannelli still survives!

You should watch Irene Dunne and Cary Grant in "Penny Serenade" sometime. You owe it to yourself. (And, unfortunately, you now owe it to Pino "the Hammer" Manzetti, my loan shark.)
