Now Taking Requests

We'll be doing our annual One-Hit Wonder week at the beginning of the summer this year. The one song I known I am going to cover is "Come On Eileen," by Dexy's Midnight Runners, but the other four slots are still up in the air.

In case you're late to the party, here are the songs we've previously given a full run-through in One-Hit Wonder Week:

"O-o-h Child," by the Five Stairsteps

"Tubthumping," by Chumbawamba

"Undercover Angel," by Alan O'Day

"You Were on My Mind," by We Five

"Fade Into You," by Mazzy Star

"Telstar," by the Tornados

"Steal My Sunshine," by Len

"Magic," by Pilot

"Cars," by Gary Numan

"I've Never Been to Me," by Charlene

Great choice with "Eileen" -- it is the quintissential one-hit wonder.

I wonder if these qualify:

1. "Baby Come Back", Player.
2. "I Like Dreamin'", Kenny Nolan.
3. "Lovin' You", Minnie Riperton.

Player I think had a hit with "This Time I'm In It for Love."

Kenny Nolan definitely had at least one more hit: "Love's Grown Deep". Also, Nolan wrote songs, especially with Bob Crewe: "Lady Maramalade", for instance.

Player had two other Top Forty hits; "Baby Come Back" is so bad I wouldn't want to write about it anyhow. Kenny Nolan did have another hit, as Scraps pointed out. The Beatles had hit earlier with "My Bonnie," which went to Number 26 in 1964; you may have been confused since the record was credited to the Beatles with Tony Sheridan.

The others are all legitimate one-hit wonders. "Lovin' You" even went to Number One in 1975, but since Minnie Riperton died four years later, it seems a little unfair to lump her in with the rest.
